Handmade

Craft fair season is just around the corner here.  There really aren't that many close by.  There is one really big one in November though.  Do you go to craft fairs in your area?

can't remember where I found this

I don't sell my work, for one thing I'm just not productive enough.  I admire those who do sell though.  I know some who stop by my blog do.  Who is signed up to participate in a craft fair this year?

Speaking of that, am I the last one to hear about Amazon Handmade?  What do you think of it?  Competition for Etsy but perhaps a broader base of customers.  Of course there is the whole feeling of "big business" taking over. Still, if you make items to sell you want to get them to market someplace or another.

  1. You're definitely not the last to learn about Amazon Handmade. But I'm always among the last to know. ;)) I used to sell at crafts sales but haven't for a very long time.

  2. I had NO idea Amazon was in the handmade business now, but my friend Scott once told me you can find ANYTHING on Amazon, so I'm certainly not terribly surprised.

I've never sold my art, but hope to one of these days. It's my goal to sell my first piece, then I might not feel so inadequate. I sure like your adorable card, though.

  3. Well, that's news to me, but I did go check it out.......not that I am really interested in starting an other business.
Years ago I had my own craft show, here at my house.....it was back when I was a nail technician and had a lot of clients that bought my stuff. From cards to paintings......and a whole lot in between....LOL Now?.......still sell things here and there....mostly to friends......if they won't take it for free......*grin*

  4. I used to sell at craft shows and street festivals and really enjoyed it ...but it is a lot of very hard work. Don't think I could handle it any longer. I didn't know about Amazon's new line but I'll go check it out now :)

  5. I really hate Amazon because it tax-dodges in the UK and I have heard it is a mean employer. But you do get a wider base of people. I sell books sometimes on Amazon because people automatically think of it first for books, but I wouldn't help it build up its handmade business to compete with Etsy. So that's my 2 cents worth ! :)

  6. I used to go to craft fairs (there are two big ones per year in our area). That was when I quilted a lot. These days I save money by staying away! I have never heard of Amazon hand-made, maybe I should avoid it. I would love a dressmaking fair, but it is unlikely to happen - few people sew clothes these days.

  7. Amazon is the 800 pound gorilla, except that gorillas are very gentle.

  8. Craft fairs?
No, I avoid fairs of all kinds. Not because of the products but because of the crowds of people hanging by, unable to decide if to buy or not to buy. I am too impatient.

  9. I have done craft fairs in my area for the past 20+ years. I used to do 10 or so between October and mid December and slowly they have dwindled down to only 1 or 2 still running them. This is the first year I have decided to give it up. As you know, I do sell on Etsy, and I have just learned of Amazon Handmade also. There are so many sites now for individuals to sell on, it is a little mind boggling. I have not had a real chance to check them out yet.

  10. Just a week ago I got my acceptance letter into my favorite holiday show. I'm so happy since it has such a good vibe and energy. I don't sell at many fairs - this is actually the only one this season - but I enjoy it very much.
