Tea Stands for Tuesday - 5/1/18

Tea Time at Elizabeth's!   We've been at the River House with no internet connection so tea party attendance and blogging in general has been hit or miss.  I've been busy while there though.

Busy painting.  Painting a chair to be exact.  Water bottle at hand.

This chair belongs to my GGD, it was given to her by her "other" Grandmother so it holds sentimental value to her.  She wanted me to paint it and chose the colors red/pink.

The chair was painted with several coats of chalk paint, then stenciled and finally given two coats of wax.  Anyone else have experience painting furniture?

The GGD hasn't seen it yet, they will pick it up when we all get together at the river for Mother's Day.

Tea Stands for Tuesday - 9/27/16

I've missed a couple of Tuesday Tea Parties at the Altered Book Lover blog. We were at the River House without internet.  I've been having my coffee on the front porch in one of my thrifted colorful cups.

I had time to experiment with turning some trash into treasure.

I literally found this chair sitting on the curb waiting for trash collection day.  No seat but I thought it had "good bones" and I took it home.

Washed, lightly sanded and painted with two coats of two colors of chalk paint.  I used Pumpkin and Maise.  Then the chair was sanded again in a few places to let the "pumpkin color" show through.  Last of all waxed and buffed.

DH is going to cut a piece of wood to create the seat.  Meanwhile I'm auditioning upholstery.  Here's a piece of heavy fabric I picked up.  A remnant at a deep discount.  It is very heavy and might be what is known as bark cloth.

Here's the second choice, picked up in the same remnant pile.

This project was a lot of fun.  I'd never tried anything like it before, never used chalk paint and have yet to upholster anything - but that's coming soon.

I've shown this project to just a handful of friends and received various opinions about which fabric to use.  Feel free to chime in.

Curbside

Good Morning Monday!

Yes indeed.  That would be me.  A first for me I might add.

This chair, or what is left of it, was spotted curbside.  I stopped, opened the back of the car, put it in and hauled it home.

Before you think I'm lost my mind entirely I will explain.  There is a method to my madness as they say.

I have a couple of old pieces of furniture I plan to paint with chalk paint.  I've never used chalk paint and the wax that goes with it.  I think this chair will make the perfect practise piece.  I can play with color and get a feel for the process.   Obviously the chair lacks a seat.  I'll deal with that later.  I may just do the thing where you fit in a wire basket shape in the empty area and plant the "seat" with flowers.  Who knows.  Playing with paint is my objective and the chair has enough detail to allow me to try out different ideas.

If you've used chalk paint and have any hints to pass along they would be much appreciated.

Have you ever stopped and picked up curbside furniture?
