Happy Saturday.

How are you spending your Saturday?  We aren't having snow but it is cold for Northern California.  I think I'll knit a bit.

Welcome October

We usually have beautiful weather during the month of October here in Northern California.  I hope to get out and about to enjoy some of the beauty nature offers.

Every month Elizabeth  at Altered Book Lover ssuggests we bring an old post back for a second look.  I chose this one because I like the autumn colors.

Wet Canvas - Pears

This is my third experiment with acrylics.  In September an Annual Pear Festival takes place in one of the small towns by the lake in the mountains. That was the inspiration for this piece.

9x6 mixed media acrylic

A map of the area, recycled tea bag papers, tissue paper and paper napkins were all used in creating this piece and it was painted with acrylics

This is the last of the set of three canvas boards that I bought. I'm not sure if I will continue this experiment or not. It has been a learning experience for me in any case.

Welcome October

We definitely need some fall weather here in NoCA.  Fires and smoke still linger.

Welcome September

I enjoy the beginning of September knowing the winter holidays are coming up soon.  We really don't get fall weather here until nearly November but I can dream of crispy leaves and warm fireplaces.

Let's discuss fashion

I'm not really interested in fashion in terms of what to wear myself.  I do find it interesting in the context of culture.  What was worn when.

This is admittedly long but I enjoyed it on two levels.  The music and dancing was lovely.  The fashions were interesting.  I did run it a second time with the music off so I could really concentrate on the fashion.

My thoughts were:  1) The overall look, all the white headscarves and buttoned to the neck tops reminded me of "The Handmaidens Tale" for some reason.  2) The pinafores (or what ever they were with the straps) seemed very work-like attire.  3) I spotted a Shorts Suit.  Isn't that what they were called?  Maybe in the 80's?  Didn't like them then, don't like them now.  4) All the boots seemed to echo the "down to business" feel of the collection to me.  At least the models weren't tottering around of heels that would be pretty useless in most situations.

Let me know what you think,

Good Monday Morning

Even though I am retired, there is something about a Monday morning that seems like a fresh start.  A new week.

Lily of the Nile

When I go on my morning walks I spot lots of these flowers along the way.  They are often used in plantings around businesses.  Common or not, I think they are beautiful

Happy Sunday to everyone else.

Happy Saturday

Are you coloring eggs this year?  We won't be spending time with any little people this year so no egg hunt here.  Coloring and hiding eggs was always part of the fun of Easter when my girls were growing up.

My Name is Lucy Barton (book)

I've been reading a lot during this stay at home period.  I'm fortunate to have an e-reader and a local library that has lots of ebooks I can borrow.

Some time ago,  I read "Olive Kitteridge" and liked it very much. Strout was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for that novel.

I just finished this one.  I don't know what took me so long to get back to this author.  I like her somewhat contemplative writing style. I already have "Anything Is Possible" on my reader ready to go. Are you familiar with Strout's work?  What book recommendation do you have for me?

Tea Stands for Tuesday 4/7/2020

Good morning everyone, I hope this Tuesday finds you well.

I used one of my blossoming teas this morning.  I don't have very many of them and have been saving them for special occasions.  What occasion is more special that our weekly tea party hosted by Elizabeth?

I'm adding a little bit of humor for you.  I think we could all use a giggle about now.  Please take care of yourself, be well and find ways to enjoy your days.

EDIT:  I posted the humor earlier but wanted to share it with the Tea group as I think we all need a little lightness right now.

Nearly two weeks in....

Nearly two weeks of "house arrest" here in our area.  Things were going fairly well but....

We are out of garlic!!!

I was worried about the virus but what about the vampires?

Welcome March

trees are blossoming

Dear March - Come in
by Emily Dickinson

Dear March - Come in -
How glad I am -
I hoped for you before -
Put down your Hat -
You must have walked -
How out of Breath you are -
Dear March, how are you, and the Rest -
Did you leave Nature well -
Oh March, Come right upstairs with me -
I have so much to tell -

I got your Letter, and the Birds -
The Maples never knew that you were coming -
I declare - how Red their Faces grew -
But March, forgive me -
And all those Hills you left for me to Hue -
There was no Purple suitable -
You took it all with you -

Who knocks? That April -
Lock the Door -
I will not be pursued -
He stayed away a Year to call
When I am occupied -
But trifles look so trivial
As soon as you have come

That blame is just as dear as Praise
And Praise as mere as Blame -

Leap Year 2020

"I don’t mind leap years. I know why we need them. But 2020 doesn’t strike me so far as a year that deserves an extra day."

Sapphire Grapes

I know I'm easily amused but ...  I did a double take in the produce shop and a big smile broke out on my face.

Sapphire Grapes

I bought a bag of grapes and when I got them home DH had quite a laugh as well.  They certainly taste like grapes, in fact they taste like very good grapes.  Maybe we are the last folks around who hadn't had them.

We really need to get out more.
