Tea Stands for Tuesday - 10/13/15

I've been spending time lately curled up on the couch, a book in hand and my trusty thermal mug beside me.   I thought some of you that visit The Altered Book Lover on Tuesdays might enjoy hearing about this book

The Zen of Seeing
Frederick Franck

Frederick Sigfred Franck (April 12, 1909 in Maastricht, The Netherlands – June 5, 2006 in Warwick, New YorkU.S.) was a painter, sculptor, and author

Frederick Franck drawing

"You are not copying nature, but responding to nature in full awareness, to the way nature expresses itself in that object." (Frederick Franck)

The book is handwritten in way that reminds me of books from the 70'S and contains lots of illustrations. I found it inspiring. Frank says we don't really take the time to "see" in everyday life.  By drawing things, we develop the gift of sight.

The book made me want to take a sketchbook outside and begin.

  2. Sounds like a great book to me. I don't draw but I do think making photos also makes us more aware of our surroundings. I;ll have to see if I can find this book.

  6. I love "not copying nature, but responding". It's much less intimidating and more freeing. Thx!

  13. Sorry I am so late visiting. I didn't think I'd be THIS late, though. Your mug looks like several Sally has. She uses hers for water, though.

The book sounds interesting, and I'm sure it would be something many would love. However, since I don't sketch, draw, or paint (other than throwing it on a page), I'm not sure how much I'd get from it, except a good read.

Thanks for sharing it and your thermos with us for T this Tuesday.

  14. That sounds like a good book. I think that my high school art teacher would approve. He was always saying, "Draw what you see. Not what you think you see. Not what you want to see. Draw what you really see." I still remember his words after all these years. :)

    I hope you're having a good T Day! :)

  15. I just downsized that book before I moved...along with stacks of other books. It's a good book. Yes, makes one want to sketch and draw whatever is around you. :)
Love that you have a thermal mug, too! Life has shifted. Take the time to settle into it. love and hugs. Happy T-Day!
