Tea Stands for Tuesday - 11/13/19

It is Tuesday.  Is everyone ready for a tea party?  Elizabeth is hosting the party as she does faithfully every week.  Join us, you will find a great group of people who post nearly every Tuesday
.

I pulled out a vintage tea cup for my tea this morning.  It seemed to fit the book I'm going to tell you about.  Doesn't everyone match their cup to their reading material?

My friend Laurie (blog here) writes book reviews.  Sometimes she generously passes books on to me.  This came in the mail recently.  Her review made me want to sit right down and read it.

"Harry's Trees"
Jon Cohen.

This is a magical book, a perfect break from out troubled times. Below is a bit from Laurie's review.  She says it much better than I can.

"It’s a brilliant story, a fairy tale on a modern scale, where the trees are as important as the people, where a little girl with a red coat is the bravest, and where the Wolf talks to the dog. The writing made me feel like the world was illuminated with golden light despite the people who were greedy. I was so sad when the book ended; not because it ends sadly but because I had to walk away from that world. Five stars."

What book would you recommend?

  2. I'm always ready for a T-party, Darla - even though I don't drink tea ;-) I love the visiting and catching up with such a lovely bunch of ladies.

"Harry's Trees" sounds refreshing. I like "escape" books. The world is such a mess. I recommend any Jeannette Walls book. But you've probably read all of those ;-)

    Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen

  3. I match my cups to the season. How interesting to select it based on the book you're reading. That would challenge me. Your cup and saucer are lovely, and the book sounds fascinating.

I've just finished the latest Ladies No 1 Detective Agency mystery and am re-reading Dracula (horror by Bram Stoker) and Lord Foul's Bane (fantasy by Stephen Donaldson).

  9. I love a cuppa close by when I read, for me it would be a mug a much steadier base in case I knock it. Your cup and saucer looked really pretty and it sounds a good book too.
    Happy T day wishes.

  10. That sounds like a good book. I looked for more reviews on Goodreads and it is definitely on my wish list now. Unfortunately it is not yet out on Kindle.
No I don't match my cup to my book. We have mugs. Large mugs, but they are all the same. But I do like a drink when I read. So the mug is never far away.
    Happy T-Day,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  11. I love reading book reviews. I haven't written any reviews for awhile though. This book sounds like a great read. I just reread a classic-Great Expectations from Charles Dickens, which I read probably 30 years ago. I loved it as much this time as I remember it being last time, but it certainly isn't an escape like your book sounds. Such a pretty tea cup. Hugs-Erika

  12. I just added this book to my Goodreads list. I love going in and finding new books to read. Right now I am reading through several series but The Bloody Jack Series by L.A.Meyer is really fun and light hearted. I am also reading through the Harry Potter series.
How fun that you match pretty cups to your book. I love drinking tea from pretty cups but I only do that when I have company. I drink way too much tea to keep refilling a tiny cup.
    Happy Tea Day,
    Kate

  14. I’ve been without electricity for over a day. It has been frigid cold here and my fingers are still not warm. I would have been by sooner, but wanted to get something together for AEDM.

I've been very worried about you. I hope THIS home you bought is not anywhere near these new fires. My friend Joseph lives just outside Malibu in the canyons. His PO box is in Malibu, so I'm sure he is biting his nails about now.

Your tea cup and matching saucer are adorable. Beautiful, in fact.

Your friend knows how to write a review. She also knows JUST the person to send the book to after she has reviewed it. Lucky you, dear.

Thanks for sharing this with us for T this week. Again, sorry I'm so late visiting.
