Surprise! Its been awhile since I've been able to join Elizabeth and the rest of the gang for a Tuesday tea.
I've been having my tea at the River House. There is a draw bridge right where our property ends. Ships no longer go through the area but every year they test the bridge just to be sure it is workable. I was excited to watch it go up and down. They did it three times.
Workers at our fence getting ready.
They sound an extremely loud horn and...there she goes
She's up! As the locals say. Not sure why a bridge is a "she". In any case it was interesting to watch but might give me pause the next time I drive over it.
We have a few drawbridges in Seattle. They're always fun to watch. One, out by the locks (between Puget Sound and Lake Union), is a train trestle, too. Fun to watch when it comes down and a train crosses. So glad to see you here again. Happy T- Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteLucky you--I have always loved drawbridges!
ReplyDeleteDarla Darla!!! You have been missed! Thanks for sharing your tea and your drawbridge.. I don't think i have been around a draw bridge since childhood and i lived near the ocean for a while.. Happy happy T day! Hugs! deb
ReplyDeleteIt' wonderful to see you at the T party this week! I love your mug with its happy colours and design and what fun it must be to see the bridge going up and down too 😀. Wishing you a lovely week and Happy T Day! J 😊 x
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that to see and have a drawbridge right in your own backyard-especially since it isn't active on a daily basis:):) Happy T day!
ReplyDeleteIt must have been good to watch the bridge raising. It is lovely to see your photos.
ReplyDeleteHappy T day wishes.
Yvonne xx
I have really missed you, dear Darla. I'm so glad you shared your lovely teapot and colorful mug with us. I don't think I've ever seen a drawbridge, although I was so excited to see your photos. It looks like fun, especially if it only happens a couple times a year.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the drawbridge photos and your tea with us for T this Tuesday. So glad to see you here again!
I'm totally in love with your kettle. It is a whistling kettle if I am not mistaken. We don't have that model here. It is a beauty!
ReplyDeleteBeing Dutch, I am used to draw bridges. They are fascinating to watch but not so when you are in the queue anxious to get to work or school on time.
I have no idea why a bridge should be feminine. All the words for bridge I know (in french, Italian, Spanish etc) are all masculine. Oh well, ships and vehicles are also referred to as 'she'.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca
I like that homey scene you set with the shiny kettle, bright cup, and white stove. Seeing the drawbridge tested would be exciting! I can see you're enjoying your time there :) Happy T Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteThat must have been fun to watch!!
ReplyDeleteHello Darla, that bridge does look quite a sight up in the air! Glad you were home to witness it. It is good to see you blogging again, I wondered how you were. Cheers from Brisbane.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun thing to watch. My kids would love to look out the window and see a draw bridge go up.
ReplyDeleteYour tea kettle is lovely! I am looking for a 3 qt tea kettle but they are hard to come by. The search continues.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate
I could sit, sip tea, and watch that green grass grow. Missing green for sure! And nice cool view you have too Darla. Happy belated T day. I am very late this week. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeletehow cool to watch a draw Bridge! and everything Looks so green now!
ReplyDeletehappy (belated) t-day:)
what a great colorful tea mug...and fun shots of the bridge up! happy T day a bit late!
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see you, Darla. I'm glad you've been enjoying the River House. I remember drawbridges in Milwaukee and Chicago from my childhood years. They always fascinated me. In fact, I don't remember any drivers I rode with being annoyed at the wait. We were always fascinated. Simpler times. Yup, we called 'em she also ;-)
ReplyDeleteYour tea kettle brings back memories as well.
Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen
