Tea Stands for Tuesday 3/22/15

This morning I'm drinking coffee out of my usual mug and you've seen that before.  I'm here to talk about wine glasses though. Actually "stemless" wine glasses.  Have you seen or heard of them?

Stemless white wine, Crate and Barrel

Stemless red wine, Crate and Barrel

First of all, I don't understand this concept.  Secondly, I can't see much if any difference between the red and white glasses.  Maybe no one else could either because they are marked down.

I thought the purpose of holding a wine glass by the stem was that you don't warm the glass and its contents.  You also keep the bowl clean.  Their advertising point seems to be that these stemless glasses can be used for anything.   That is true but then why call them wine glasses?  What do you think?

Here's what the Wine Enthusiast has to say about them.

I'm going to head on over to the Altered Book Lovers blog and see what the rest of the Tuesday group is drinking this morning.  Grab your drink and join us won't you?

  1. How strange - I've never seen or heard of the stemless wine glasses. Perhaps I need to get out more :) The concept doesn't appeal to me at all - especially in our hot climate, the glass would become too warm for the wine very quickly.

  2. A favorite restaurant of ours sometimes serves wine in stemless glasses and I must say I do not enjoy it that way as much as traditional glassware.
    Happy T Day Darla
    Thank you for your visit

  3. I hpapen to have a set of those glasses-I bought them cuz hubby keeps breaking the stemmed glasses and I don't have one complete set any longer! However, he hates these and won't use them so I use them to hold parfait like desserts with layers of cake and pudding. Happy T day!

  4. I had glasses years ago that were shaped like that. They were NOT called wine glasses, though. The difference between the white and red seems to be the price point. If I'm going to drink wine, I want it to look like a wine glass. I suspect if you were having a large party where many drinks/liquors were offered it might be a plus. But I agree with you that I don't understand the concept either. However, I was THRILLED that you shared this with us for T this Tuesday, or I might never have heard about or seen them otherwise!

  5. Yes, they are for everyday use. I have something similar. Very handy. The shape is wine glass so it swills properly but I can use them for juice too. We normally use these every day. The stemmed glasses come out when we have visitors.
I can't see any difference between the red and white to be honest.....
    Have a great week,

  6. I use the stemless red wine glasses on occasion, if we are going to be outside and there is a chance that the glass with the long stem would break.

  7. I just think merchandisers will use any angle to try to make a sale. but since I don't drink wine or juice, I'm probably not up on the latest trends in that area! :) I always love a good sale, though! Happy T day!

  8. They look like our juice glasses. I've seen so many people hold a wine glass by the bowl instead of the stem (and that is how I tend to hold a glass myself), this seems to get rid of the part that wasn't being used anyway ;)

  9. When I used to drink wine, I would drink it out of a juice glass. I don't like stems on my drinkware!

  14. I agree. Why call them wine glasses at all? They are just pretty glasses--LOL! But I tend to break glasses with stems, so they'd be good for people like me.
    Best to you! Love, Rita
