What to do with those eggs

What are you going to do with all those hard boiled eggs?  We didn't color any but the rest of the family did.  Keeping the tradition going.  They want to share some of the bounty with us.

Here's my mid century egg plate, in the "Atomic" pattern.  Of course I will fill it with deviled eggs.

This isn't my exact recipe but close enough.  You can find lots of egg curry recipes on the net.

When I make pickled beets I save the juice as we use the beets.  I put hard boiled eggs in the juice and after a day or so they come out beautifully purple with just a slight tang of pickle juice.

Any other suggestions?

Tea Stands for Tuesday 3/22/15

This morning I'm drinking coffee out of my usual mug and you've seen that before.  I'm here to talk about wine glasses though. Actually "stemless" wine glasses.  Have you seen or heard of them?

First of all, I don't understand this concept.  Secondly, I can't see much if any difference between the red and white glasses.  Maybe no one else could either because they are marked down.

I thought the purpose of holding a wine glass by the stem was that you don't warm the glass and its contents.  You also keep the bowl clean.  Their advertising point seems to be that these stemless glasses can be used for anything.   That is true but then why call them wine glasses?  What do you think?

Neighborhood Walk 3/21/16

We are having spring weather, rain one day and sun the next.  I try to time my walks between sprinkles but I carry an umbrella just in case.  

There are always interesting window displays.  Even though this one doesn't have the usual spring colors I still feel it evokes the season.

Here's a close up of the shell.  If you look closely there is a bit of my favorite spring blue in the necklace they displayed.

Later on my walk, I spotted this planter of succulents.  The shape of the blue grey plant reminded me of the shell above.  Do you see the similarity?

Shopping the Blues

I've been window shopping.  The first spring things are showing up. I am particularly attracted to the blues.

I like this a lot. I showed it to a group of friends and we discussed options because I already have a couple of shirts in just about this shade of blue.

Here is another shirt I like.  Due to window reflections I couldn't get a photo straight on but you get the idea.  I do not like the macrame type bib necklace at all.

So far I haven't purchased anything but I'm very tempted by these colors.  It seems different color combo's cycle through fashions.  Sometimes it is difficult to find the colors you like if they aren't "in" that year.  It looks like this might be my color season.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Here's a little poem for St. Patrick's Day.  I'm not Irish but I am always ready to celebrate something.  I think I'll wear a green hat when I go out on my walk today.

Tea Stands for Tuesday - 3/15/16

It's Tuesday so lets have tea (or drink of your choice).  I have a little mystery for you this morning.

I'll be drinking my tea out of one of these cups today.  Aren't they interesting with their clamp on copper handles?  Remove the handles they become a drinking glass.  I have two more packed away, one orange and one yellow.  

Now for the mystery.  I've looked all over trying to find the maker of these.  They have the look of Fiesta Ware but are unmarked. The cups belonged to my Grandmother.  They were part of a set of very colorful dishes she had probably in the 40's.  A set very much like Fiesta Ware.  I don't know what happened to the dishes and don't really remember how I came to have the cups.  I do enjoy using them occasionally and going back to Grandma's kitchen in my memory.

So, if any of you collectors out there have any idea about the maker of these, or the date they were made I would love to know.

I want to thank Voodoo Vixen for trying to help me with the mystery.  She found these by Bauer Pottery.

The handle on this one looks right but the tumbler is smooth.

Wrong handle and the "rings" on this Ringware piece are more frequent and less pronounced that on my cups.

I do believe it is Bauer though looking at the picture of the first handle.  Perhaps they did the cup a bit different at different years.  

A Wet Monday

Here by the Bay we have been getting some much needed rain. Drenching downpours at times.  

I managed to rescue some Calla Lilies from the garden.  The heavy rains were making most of them flop over.

Some parts of the U.S. are flooding, other parts are still struggling to catch up to normal rainfall.  We are in the struggle but already ahead of last year.

Calla Lilies are quite common in older gardens here.  I like them, I think they have an Art Deco feeling and look rather elegant.

The *Honey* Cowl - knitting

A week or so ago I posted a photo of my knitting bag and the bag was stuffed with some unfinished projects.  I told myself I had to finish those before embarking on something new. Here's one of those knitting projects off the needles.

*Honey Cowl*  Madeline Tosh pattern, Madeline Tosh yarn in a colorway called Georgia.  Hard to photograph in our winter light and a bit more purple than is showing on my monitor.

The pattern gives a choice of several widths and lengths. The version I chose is 8 inches wide and 32 inches long.  Wrapped around twice it creates a nice turtle neck effect.

A close up shows the colorway and stitch pattern a bit better.

The pattern was easy, the yarn lovely to work with.  That said, I think the honeycomb pattern would show up more in a solid color as pictured in the pattern.  This was a case of choosing the yarn first because I liked it so much and then trying to find a pattern to use it with.  That's probably not the best way to go although I think lots of knitters do it just that way.

I may eventually make this one again in a solid color.

Tea Stands for Tuesday - 3/8/16

Time to check in with Elizabeth and my tea party friends to see what is going on this week.  Won't you join us?

I'm clearly drinking coffee.  From the look of our Mallita coffee pot it is possible I'm drinking too much coffee.

Did you notice the hot pad the coffee pot is sitting on?  A friend made it for me and it is filled with spices, mostly cloves I think.  Even though I've had it many years the scent is still there when you sit something warm on it.  These were quite popular with crafters at one time.  Did you ever make any?

I may be having one of these later this afternoon.

It is tax season here in the U.S.  I'm meeting with my CPA this morning.  Our taxes are complicated this year due to the loss of our second home in the fire.  I hope I have everything in order, fingers crossed. 

Neighborhood Walk - 3/7/16

The neighborhood is changing on my 4th St. route. Lots of building going on and roads being torn up. Signs for locations of new shops are everywhere.  I suppose that signals a good economy but it doesn't make for a pleasant walk.

Things definitely improved as I neared home.  I was greeted by this beautiful tree.  It made me feel quite happy to walk under (and on) all those pink petals.

Restart the art

It has been months since I've attempted to do any art.  It has been hard to get back into the spirit but finally I said - Enough!

I needed to send a birthday card.  I needed to send it to someone who always appreciates something handmade.  I can post the picture now because the card has been delivered.

Simple design created using masking tape and water color.  A technique I've used before.  Then I cut the front layer of the card around the shapes and the message is written behind that.

It felt good to get out the card making supplies. Hopefully I've broken the creative dry spell I've been in.

Inspiration Avenue Challenge 1/10/13

The theme for the challenge at Inspiration Avenue this week is POPPIES.  I like poppies a lot and have sketched or painted a few.

I enjoy working with layers of torn pieces of paper, stacking them up to create some depth and texture on the canvas.   The texture doesn't really show up in a photo all that well though.

Tea Stands for Tuesday - 3/1/16

It is a good thing Tea Tuesday comes around once a week.  I've been trying to blog more frequently but sometimes words and ideas don't come.  I can always count on Tuesday over at Elizabeth's blog.  Thanks for hosting the party Elizabeth.

I've been doing a bit of knitting every day.  This morning I'm drinking Indian black tea and working on the leg of a sock.  See the red needle holder at the bottom of the picture?  One of my favorite knitting tools, secures the knitting on the double pointed needles when you aren't working.

Here's a peek at my knitting bag.  Fabric with a zip closure and lots of pockets inside.  Very handy.  Can you tell it is stuffed with something?  There are two unfinished projects in there.  Yes, two.  One of these days I will finish them.  Stay tuned.
