Cold weather is soup weather at our house. We enjoy a variety of homemade soups throughout the season.
Readers here know I've been furnishing the River House with colorful china from thrift shops. I easily covered the basics but will still add something it it is colorful and a little different. That's why I bought this soup bowl for $1.69 when I spotted it.
When I got the bowl home I filled it with one of our winter favorites, mushroom barley soup. Those orange flecks in the soup are carrots - something we add to the basic recipe just to sweeten it up a bit.
Do you have a favorite soup? A favorite bowl to put it in?
It's been a long time since I've used barley. I'm adding it to my shopping list now!
ReplyDeleteIf you have a Dollar Tree near by, they have some really cute bowls, cups, plates, etc. for $1.00 each. Not vintage, but some designs actually look vintage.
That sounds good! We love all kinds of soup here. We just had Senate Navy Bean Soup this week.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty bowl! I like bean soups. Any kind, really, white beans and lentils -I count them as beans ;) - that's what I'm thinking of right now.
ReplyDeleteHomemade split pea. Always put a pot on to cook on the woodstove as soon as our power goes out. By the time we're ready to eat, it's ready.
ReplyDeleteLooks yummy, and I love the vintage bowl.
ReplyDeleteAny homemade soup.....except for split pea....is my favorite. I make a lot of soups in the winter, usually with left overs from dinner plus some fresh veggies.
That is a gorgeous soup bowl, which will match in with the other pieces you have previously shown us. Nothing beats homemade soup in the cold weather. We like a basil, pumpkin, carrot, tomato no-fat recipe I have made for years. Never tire of it!
ReplyDeleteI love thrift store crockery and many of our plates are vintage, and interesting.
