Tea Stands for Tuesday - 7/19/16

Good morning Tea friends.  Today I'm going to show you a painting project.  When I'm painting it is best to leave the coffee for another time and drink water instead.

I tried something new to me, painting a lampshade.  I got the inspiration from the book "Creating a Colorful Home" that I reviewed earlier.  I used her techniques but not her stencils or actual design.

Here is where I started.  Lampshade from a thrift store and a variety of paints.  Following is the finished shade shown in 4 parts so you can see all sides.

Here you see the finished shade on a thrifted lamp base. They didn't come together and I'm not sure I will end up using this base.  It seems a little small.  If I do use it, or if I find another one, I plan to paint it.  Probably yellow.  What do you think?

Now it is time to take your drink and hop on over to Elizabeth's blog to see what the Tuesday Tea Party has in store for you.

P.S.   I will be away from the computer by Tuesday so I'm hoping Elizabeth can link me up.  I'll be around to visit everyone as soon as I'm able to.

  5. I like it a lot! The base painted yellow would be good - maintaining the bright colors. I admire your adventuring and love to see your results. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Your lampshade is fab! Well done! You must be so pleased! The base is a good size but I think I would paint it, perhaps in a light colour.
    Happy T-Day,

  7. I actually like it just like it is, but you'll never hear me object to painting something yellow :) Happy T Tuesday

  8. As soon as I saw your T post go live on my sidebar, I linked you. Then I promptly fell asleep, but left your post open on my desk. I have no idea at this point if others have left comments, but I will as soon as I publish this.

Now that's something I would approve of painting. I tend to agree that the shade and the base are probably not meant for each other, but maybe if it's painted it won't look so ornate.

Thanks for sharing your water and your lovely shade with us for T this Tuesday. And thanks for joining the party this week, too.

  9. Fabulous, Darla! I really like what you did with the lampshade. It looks colorful and harmonious - so pretty. A yellow lampbase would be the cherry on top (even though it's on the bottom).

  12. I like the proportions with this lamp base because it shows off the happy shade so well and makes that the focus. I'd just paint it and keep this base. :)

  18. Love the finished lampshade!

With all the detailing on the base, I'd think about painting it and then picking out small details with the other colors in the shade.

  19. This will make you smile every time you lay eyes on it. :) Maybe the slight imbalance in size adds to its charm. Of course, you know me--I'd paint the base red--LOL!
