Curbside

Good Morning Monday!

Yes indeed.  That would be me.  A first for me I might add.

This chair, or what is left of it, was spotted curbside.  I stopped, opened the back of the car, put it in and hauled it home.

Before you think I'm lost my mind entirely I will explain.  There is a method to my madness as they say.

I have a couple of old pieces of furniture I plan to paint with chalk paint.  I've never used chalk paint and the wax that goes with it.  I think this chair will make the perfect practise piece.  I can play with color and get a feel for the process.   Obviously the chair lacks a seat.  I'll deal with that later.  I may just do the thing where you fit in a wire basket shape in the empty area and plant the "seat" with flowers.  Who knows.  Playing with paint is my objective and the chair has enough detail to allow me to try out different ideas.

If you've used chalk paint and have any hints to pass along they would be much appreciated.

Have you ever stopped and picked up curbside furniture?

  1. Ooh, how exciting Darla. Yes, I have picked up things from the kerb occasionally, and kept them for years. My daughter is a genius at it, and gets lots of things for her children and paints them up. Your chair is very attractive and I'm looking forward to seeing your chalk paint. I have some here, and have not gotten up the courage to give it a go.

  2. Chalk paint is so easy! You just paint it on with a regular paint brush. The strokes might show but that is what it is suppose to do. After the paint is totally dry you brush on the CLEAR wax in small sections and buff it in with a dry soft cloth. If you want to age it, then after the CLEAR wax is applied and buffed, you can add dark wax (not too heavy) and buff that. The wax dries to the touch quickly but takes a few weeks to dry completely, so if you are doing a table don't put anything on the table top for a few weeks. And go light on the wax.....

  3. I have the twin of that chair, but from the curbside here - I've had it 20 years now! Have fun with painting it! Hugs, Valerie

  4. Oh my gosh, my dear husband picked up things curbside when he was a teen, we did it in Spain when we lived there as newlyweds while he was in the US Navy, and we never stopped. We've recycled some, sold some and live with some. It is amazing what people throw out. Now that you've broken the ice with this first piece, you'll start to see more usable things 'curbside'. You can't beat the price. :-)

Have fun with your project ~ FlowerLady

  6. Oh, yes, we are part of the curbside economy! I have picked up things, and when we no longer need a piece of furniture we lug it out to the road. It's always gone within 4 hours.

It's amazing what you can find. I can't wait to see what you do with the chalk board paint!
