What are you reading?

Having a stack of books around makes me happy.  A book that is waiting to be read is like an unwrapped present.

Van Gough still life
French Novels with Rose

This painting is not as well known as many of the artists works but it makes me smile.  I want to pull up a chair and pick up a book.

My friend Laurie just sent me two books.  "The Weight of Ink" and "The Girl Who Knew Too Much".  Laurie writes a blog devoted to book reviews, you can find it here.  I'm delighted to have two new books-worlds to discover.

Tell me what you are reading or what you last read that you would recommend.  I'd be lost without a book.  How about you?

  1. I just read My Soulful Home, A Year in Flowers by blogger Kelly Wilkniss. It is a book about flower arranging.

  2. Re-reading The Pillars of the Earth and World Without End (Ken Follett) as the third in the trilogy comes out in September. Also reading The Hill Road by Patrick O'Keeffe. It's a little book of short stories which are remembered after the read as haunting.

  3. You're back!

Just finished War and Turpentine, a translated Flemish novel set in WWI. Absolutely excellent. Before that, Magical Journey and The Gift of an Ordinary Day by Katrina Kenison. Also the very powerful Guidebook to Relative Strangers (subtitle Journeys Into Race, Motherhood, and History) by Camille T. Dungy.

  4. I am so glad to see that painting. It's beautiful. I am reading a mystery right now. I find I've read it before, but it's still quick and a fun read by Sue Grafton. Nothing I would recommend, though.

  5. I've never seen that painting before! I love it!

I'm about 2/3 of the way through "Fantasyland: How America Went Haywire" It's very interesting- how Americans are particularly apt to believe odd things, starting from when the first European settlers arrived.

  7. I find comfort in having books around that I haven't read yet. I'm currently reading book 5 in Stephen King's Dark Tower series and _Fractal Prince_ by Hannu Rajaniemi. Thanks for the link to the book review blog. I'll check it out.
